About the Institute/Academy:

The Arizona Municipal Clerks’ Institute and Academy are designed by the School of Public Affairs, at Arizona State University and the Arizona Municipal Clerks’ Association, to meet the professional development needs of Arizona Municipal Clerks. The Institute provides a comprehensive curriculum in public administration, leadership, management and technical skills, as well as personal development. The Arizona Municipal Clerks’ Institute is accredited by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) and meets the IIMC education requirements for Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC).

A Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) certification is a distinction granted by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, to Clerks who complete three years of full attendance, at a recognized Institute and/or fulfilled other educational or experience requirements. A clerk must receive 100 hours of continuing professional education provided through an Institute.  Each year the Arizona Institute provides 40 hours of instruction in the areas of public administration, interpersonal and organizational dynamics, and current issues and strategies. Three years of attendance at the Institute are required in order to apply for certification. These need not be consecutive years. Other requirements include membership in the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.  For additional information, please visit http://www.iimc.com

The Arizona Master Municipal Clerks’ Academy (MMCA) provides education and professional development, to address the need for continuous learning, in an ever-changing environment. The Academy is open to practicing municipal clerks following CMC certification.   Entrance into the Academy requires evidence of post-Certification study and service to the Municipal Clerk profession and the community.
