The Ramsey Executive Education Leadership Development and Coaching Program is designed to build the capacity and capability of public sector professionals. Understanding the critical role leadership plays, in the success of an organization, is integral to ensuring personal, professional, organizational and community sustainability. Utilizing an internationally recognized, results-oriented program, participants will develop, practice, strengthen, model, and mentor effective leader practices and behaviors.
Organization/Group/Team Process
- Two organizational meetings frame the process – one at the beginning and one at the end - to introduce participants to the Program and, ultimately, to celebrate its successes, plan for continued opportunities to utilize the leadership system and enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Participants engage in 360° on-line leadership evaluation designed to gauge the frequency of exhibition of 30 key leadership behaviors, in five major categories. Constituent/observer and personal feedback comprise the evaluation system. In addition, participants engage in strategic introspective exercises to enhance understanding and impact of personal leadership behaviors on themselves and others. The Program assists participants in building, on their existing strengths, and developing strategies, to strengthen areas, where additional emphasis should be placed.
- Participants are matched with coaches with demonstrated expertise, experience and dedicated interest in leadership development. Utilizing a collaborative approach, they meet in two, one-on one sessions, designed to evaluate feedback, create a personal development plan, and offer ongoing support during the Program. Sufficient planning time is built in to ensure opportunities for personal reflection and analysis, constructive dialogue that promotes maximum benefits from the feedback, and effective, outcome-based results. In addition, coaches are available by e-mail and telephone to discuss specific questions or concerns.
- The Components:
- Introduction to the leadership system
- Personal leadership reflection and analysis
- Personal, constituent and observer feedback
- Coaching and collaborative, constructive dialogue
- Planning and practice opportunities
- Defining personal leadership for the future
Individual Leadership Development
The individual leadership development program is designed for specific individuals who seek participation or who are identified by their organization as professionals who could most greatly benefit from participation in the program. It is similar to the Organizational Leadership Development Program, in process and approach.
- Introductory meeting to acquaint the ‘leader’ with the program, process and expectations. Conversation about exercises to be completed before the on-line experience begins. Instruction on submission of ‘observer’ data. General discussion regarding leadership and specific discussion about the ‘leader’s’ views on individual and organizational leadership. Opportunity to raise concerns or ask questions about the experience.
- Completion of the on-line leadership surveys to assess frequency of observed leadership behaviors identified in the Leadership Practices Inventory. Data is collected, collated, and reported electronically to Ramsey Executive Education. Data is confidential and to be used for the sole purpose of enhancing individual and organizational leadership behaviors and practices.
- First of four coaching sessions begins. Leader and coach discuss the results of the LPI, implications of those results, and challenges and opportunities of effectively demonstrating the 30 leadership behaviors. Leader and coach discuss leader reaction and begin to explore the preliminary phases of a response plan for use of the information.
- Leader develops the plan. Coach is available by e-mail and phone to discuss progress, review the plan, and make suggestions.
- Leader begins implementation of the plan and is asked to observe potential changes in interactions with others or in work production, as a result of the plan. The coach encourages the leader to engage in introspection and a discussion regarding the leader’s insights on ways in which his/her behavioral changes have impacted interaction with others.
- During subsequent sessions, Leader and coach continue to discuss progress, changes noted, any potential ‘next steps’, as well as strategies for maintaining momentum. Challenges and opportunities of utilizing the leadership system continue to be explored.
