Dr. Sheila E. Murphy

Dr. Sheila E. Murphy is an Instructor in the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University. She brings extensive executive leadership experience in private and public business sectors and a wealth of consulting and educational depth in designing solutions for optimizing organizational performance. As Vice President, Reservations for Ramada Worldwide headquarters, Dr. Murphy was responsible for generating approximately one-third of the organization’s revenues through worldwide reservation centers. A signature accomplishment was the merger of two major organizations’ centers at headquarters, increasing revenues year over year with recently hired and trained staff. Previous service as Director of Ramada Management Institute served the 800+ hotel leadership, department heads, and line staff in properties throughout the world. RMI was awarded an industry Emmy award for a series of training programs designed in concert with a major advertising campaign.

As Executive Director (Dean) of the University of Phoenix executive headquarters, Dr. Murphy had responsibility for faculty and curriculum in business and management programs at all campuses, serving 80% of the students at the multiple campuses.

In partnership with Arizona State University’s Bob Ramsey Executive Education, Dr. Murphy developed and instructs the first and to date only exclusively online Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program in the United States. The program is recognized by 38 states as the signature certification of public sector leaders.

Dr. Murphy holds the Ph.D. degree from Arizona State University, where she was a Mott Fellow, the M.A. degree from the University of Michigan, where she was a Michigan College Fellow, and the B.A. degree from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Dr. Murphy has coached numerous leaders in the public and private sectors, having earned the designation of Certified Executive Coach from Pennsylvania State University. She trademarked an advanced form of strategic coaching, providing executive advisement with strategic communication and competitive analysis as focal emphases.

Dr. Murphy has authored numerous studies and published articles in the areas of motivation, organizational capacity, organizational partnerships, system-based program implementation, collaboration, and financial integration. Sheila’s signature capability in diagnosing executive communication, and her unique personal engagement with professionals at all levels, has guided hundreds of individual and organizational clients.
