Mike Hutchinson

Mike Hutchinson retired in December of 2005 after a 28-year career with the City of Mesa. He began his career as an intern in 1977 and served in several increasingly responsible management positions prior to being appointed Assistant City Manager in 1981. He served in this position until March of 2000 when he was appointed as City Manager. At the time of his retirement, the City of Mesa was the third largest city in Arizona with a population of over 440,000 residents and a land area of nearly 130 square miles. During his career he received several professional awards and was the 2006 Mesa Chamber of Commerce recipient of the 21st Century Business Leadership Award for the public sector.

Mr. Hutchinson remains active in civic and professional activities. Since May of 2008, he has served as the Director of the Superstition Vistas Project, a comprehensive land planning effort encompassing 275 square miles of Arizona State Trust Land in northern Pinal County. He serves on the Board of Directors of several groups, including the Mesa United Way, the Mesa Foundation for Educational Excellence, A New Leaf, the Mesa Arts Center Foundation, and the Morrison Institute for Public Policy at Arizona State University. He is a life member of the Arizona City/County Management Association and the International City/County Management Association. He currently serves as an Arizona City/County Management Association Range Rider.

Mr. Hutchinson received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1975 and a Masters in Public Administration from Arizona State University in 1977.
